SARATOGA RESULTS -- 8/1/20

A good day in chasing the late Pick 4 at Saratoga yesterday. True to the track's nickname of being "the graveyard of favorites" none of the favorites won in any of the final four races. Actually, that's not exactly true...in Race 11 Sadler's Joy did win but was disqualified after an inquiry and objection from bumping in the stretch and placed fourth.

I outlined nineteen horses to play in the final four races. Out of those, I had four winners, three seconds and three thirds. That's a 53% "in the money" percentage. Out of the 12 "payable" slots available in the four races, we filled 10 of them, for a sizzling 62.5% percentage.

The Late Pick Four paid $362.50, so it was a nice profit of about $200 if you played my picks.

Race 9 --  Improbable ran past them all in the stretch to win convincingly in the featured race of the day, the Whitney Handicap. By My Standards set the pace but was no match for Improbable in the stretch, finishing second. Tom's d'Etat stumbled out of the gate and blew any chances of winning, the favorite getting third. Improbable paid $8.50 to win, the exacta $38 and the trifecta $80.  A nice way to start the day.

Race 10 -- Echo Town pulled the minor upset in thee Allen Jerkins Handicap. He dueled with Tap It To Win for the win. Echo Town paid $11.40 to win. Race favorite No Parole tried to run with the front runners but backed up badly in the stretch and finished out of the money. The exacta paid a nice $81.40. Unfortunately, I did not hit the trifecta here, but it was worth a whopping $670

Race 11 -- Cross Border  was placed first after the objection/inquiry in the Bowling Green Stakes and returned $6.40 as the second favorite. I had him and the third place horse Channel Maker but couldn't come up with second place finisher, 15-1 Highland Sky.. Favorite Sadler's Joy was placed fourth after causing the ruckus in the stretch.

Race 12 -- I always advice "go deep so you won't weep" in the final leg of Pick's Four sequences and it paid off yesterday. One of my "also consider" horses -- Cariba -- got the win.by nosing past another of my "also consider" horses Jakarta to win. Sweet Bye and Bye was a close third -- this one was wide open as they hit the stretch in the Caress Stakes on the turf. Cariba was bet down to 4-1 (someone knew something) and paid $10.40 to win. A $117 exacta was your reward if you had the "9-5"  and the trifecta got you a huge $961.

As it was pointed out to me, a $2 trifecta box of all seven of my picks in the race would have cost $672...so you could have made an additional $290.

The Travers next week, another huge race -- we'll give it and the late Pick 4 a try next Saturday.

So, a fun few hours and making money for a Saratoga Saturday. We'll go for it again next week.
