It should be a beautiful weather day for the 149th Kentucky Derby this Saturday, and there are some GREAT races on the 14-race card. 

Recapping yesterday, I had (8) winners (8) seconds and (6) thirds. Toss in six exactas, two trifectas and a couple of pick threes...and it wasn't a bad handicapping day, except for the end of the card. We'll do better today, right?

Another challenging card today on Oaks Day with 13 races (and seven of them stakes races!) A lot of fillies and mares on the track today and the weather is looking nice with temps in the mid 70's and just a 30% chance of rain. 

Just to briefly recap yesterday,  I handicapped all (11) races and I had (8) winners, (8) places and (9) shows. I had a few exactas, trifectas, superfectas and two Pick 3's also. Let's hope today is another profitable day..

THURBY PICKS 5/4/23

 

Today is Thursday at Churchill Downs and it is known as "Thurby". No, we don't like the designation as locals, but you out-of-towners who come to Louisville and spend your money think it's cute, so...we do the stupid name for you. Thursday used to be "Louisville's Day" at the track, but, as more and more out-of-towners came in for the three day "Thurby, Oaks and Derby" scenario...most now look at Wednesday as "Louisville's Day" at the track.

The horses, of course, know none of this and could probably care less...they are geared to take to the track and run. It's a pretty decent field for a Thursday, but, it's Derby week, so you'd expect that. 

I used to hit Churchill, or TwinSpires on Thursday and Friday every year during Derby Week. for years....and then handle a private party's financial "needs" on Derby Day. I've retired from such and, for the second straight year...I'll be watching from the comfort and convenience of my couch.
